Destiny New is a graduate of Huntington High School in Huntington, Texas, where she obtained her certified nurse aid certification during her senior year. After high school, she worked at Memorial Hospital in Lufkin on the emergency and surgical floors. Destiny graduated magna cum laude from Stephen F. Austin State University, earning her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Destiny decided to further her education by obtaining her Master of Science – Family Nurse Practitioner degree at the University of Texas in Arlington.
Prior to dermatology, Destiny practiced primarily in the emergency room. Once she became a mother, she knew she needed better work-life balance. Dermatology was the perfect transition from the ER since it provides her with the opportunity to continue to do procedures and be hands-on with her patients. “Dermatology is a highly visual field that is fast paced and spontaneous. Dermatology never gets boring; there is something new and different everyday”, says Destiny. “Our skin is essentially telling us when something is happening internally. There is always room for growth whether it be learning new procedures or new medication options”.
Destiny is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Her clinical interests include acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, as well as cosmetic dermatology. “When people don’t feel comfortable in their own skin, it affects not only their mood, but their everyday life. It’s a wonderful feeling to be a part of helping my patients boost their confidence”.
Outside of work, Destiny loves spending time with her husband and their two active children. They enjoy sports and being involved at their church. She is a proud East Texan and is thrilled to service the community who helped shape her into the person she is.
