Morpheus8 Treatment from U.S. Dermatology Partners

What is Morpheus8?

Morpheus8 is a state-of-the-art technological device that uses deep fractional technology to perform subdermal remodeling of the skin and adipose (fat) tissue. Originally designed to improve “jowling” or double chin, the Morpheus8 device can also be used to tighten tissue and remove excess fat from the arms, bra line, and other areas. The skin tightening and fat removing results achieved using the Morpheus8 were previously possible only with advanced cosmetic surgery. Today, we can use this innovative radio frequency technology to achieve uniform, effective results and stimulate collagen production, improving the appearance and elasticity of the skin.

How Does it Work?

The Morpheus8 is a unique tissue remodeling device that combines microneedling and radiofrequency technology to reshape and tighten skin and promote collagen production through coagulation and volumetric directional heating. That may sound complicated, but actually, it’s pretty straightforward. The Morpheus8 device uses tiny (micro) needles to penetrate the surface layers of the skin, reaching deep into the sub-dermal layer. Traditional radiofrequency has to penetrate through the layers of skin. The tiny perforations stimulate the body to heal itself, leading to increased collagen and elastin production and faster skin cell turnover. The radio frequencies create a controlled level of heat that causes the skin’s healthy building blocks (collagen and elastin) to rebuild and renew themselves, leading to a natural anti-aging process that improves complexion, smooths texture, tightens loose skin, and leaves patients with skin that looks taught, smooth, and youthful. By combining radiofrequency with microneedling, the thermal energy is able to reach deeper layers of tissue, impacting the dermis and epidermis for optimal end results. Best of all, there is little to no damage to outer layers of skin, which means the process is both comfortable and cosmetically superior to other radiofrequency treatments.

Who is a Good Candidate for Morpheus8?

Just about any adult in relatively good health will be able to safely receive Morpheus8 treatment. This minimally invasive therapy option can be used on any part of the body in need of renewal, including the face, neck, abdomen, and arms. Because of the unique combination of microneedling and radiofrequency technology, Morpheus8 is effective on all skin types, including darker skin tones that can’t always be treated with other radiofrequency technologies and that often experience post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after radiofrequency treatment. Morpheus8 can be used for all of the following treatment needs:

  • Reducing acne or acne scars
  • Smoothing skin texture
  • Correcting sun damage
  • Decreasing deep lines and creases
  • Tightening mild sagging or jowls
  • Shrinking enlarged pores
  • Treating stretch marks
  • Maintaining or extending the results of a facelift

How is Morpheus8 Treatment Performed?

Morpheus8 Treatment from U.S. Dermatology PartnersMorpheus8 is an FDA approved Subdermal Adipose Remodeling Device (SARD) that combines radiofrequency with microneedling that penetrates up to 4 millimeters (deeper than other available treatments). The process itself is performed quickly and comfortably. Your procedure will be uniquely designed to address your needs, but the basic process for all patients includes the following steps:

Before we begin any treatment, we’ll schedule a pretreatment consultation. During this appointment, we’ll review your health history, medications, and treatment options. If Morpheus8 is the best treatment option, we’ll schedule your first session. We may suggest that you prepare your skin for 2 weeks prior to your appointment to give you the best result and less downtime with a product called Alastin Nectar.

At your treatment appointment, we’ll begin by numbing the treatment area. Depending on individual pain tolerance, we’ll typically use a topical numbing treatment for about 1 hour. Once the area is numb, we’ll begin your Morpheus8 treatment.

The treatment itself is very comfortable. We apply the handpiece to the desired treatment area to deliver radiofrequency energy. Then, it is picked up, replaced, and additional radiofrequency is applied until the full targeted treatment area is covered. In addition to the desired treatment area, an overlap area is treated to ensure consistency and seamless appearance of the results. Pulses may be applied one to two additional times in some areas as tolerated.

Immediately after your treatment, you may apply a cold compress for at least 20 minutes to reduce swelling and tenderness. If you have Alastin Nectar we will have you apply that twice daily for the week after your treatment. You should not apply anything else to your face, including makeup, moisturizer, and sunscreen for 24 hours after the treatment. You can wash your face with a gentle cleanser but avoid scrubbing or otherwise irritating the skin. Until you’re able to begin using sunscreen, it’s recommended that you avoid direct sun exposure.

How Long Does Morpheus8 Treatment Take?

The length of treatment depends on the area being treated, but most treatments are completed within 30 to 60 minutes.

Are There Any Side Effects to Morpheus8 Treatment?

One of the many benefits of treatment with Morpheus8 is that there are very few side effects after treatment. Most often, patients may experience some mild skin redness and swelling for a day or two after treatment. Microneedling may cause small pinpoints of irritated skin that will flake off after a few days. Some soreness can be caused by radiofrequency energy, but it is almost always manageable with over-the-counter pain medication.

How Soon Will I See Results?

Most patients see improvement as soon as a few days after treatment with the most significant results after three weeks. You may continue to see improvements months after treatment, as it can take new collagen up to 6 months to fully form.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Depending on your individual treatment plan, most patients need to schedule three sessions over the course of several months with two to five weeks of rest between sessions. After the initial treatment, we’ll schedule a follow-up session to examine your results and determine how many additional sessions will be necessary.

How Long Will Results Last?

Because of the deep penetration possible with Morpheus8, the results are long-lasting, but aging is an ongoing process. For this reason, you will likely need periodic retreatments to maintain the optimal results.

*Results may vary by individual
