What is Vivace?

Vivace is an innovative new cosmetic dermatology solution that combines microneedling with state-of-the-art radiofrequency technology to deliver exceptional results in helping maintain skin that looks smooth and youthful. If you’re interested in learning about how Vivace reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, you’ll find some of the basic details about the Vivace treatment process on this page. Whatever our age or skin type, we all want the same thing – to keep our skin looking youthful and flawless as long as possible. Despite our best efforts, wrinkles and fine lines will still develop over time. Traditional methods of minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles can be uncomfortable or ineffective, but Vivace is a quick, minimally invasive solution that effectively reduces fine lines and wrinkles, allowing you to age gracefully and look and feel your best at any age.

The Vivace treatment process combines these four effective treatments to deliver exceptional results:

  • Microneedling is a cosmetic dermatology treatment that harnesses the skin’s healing powers to restore a more youthful appearance. The procedure involves using a small gauge needle to create microscopic injuries to the skin. These micro-injuries jump-start the healing process, causing the skin to produce more collagen and promote faster cell turnover.
  • Radiofrequency technology uses heat to stimulate the production of collagen in deeper layers of skin. This means that, as the surface-level skin cells are replaced with new, healthy cells, patients will maintain a smooth, youthful appearance longer.
  • Cooling peptide masks – applied immediately following treatment to soothe skin, prevent inflammation, and improve the results of treatment.
  • Deep moisturizing serum & protective balm – before you leave, a soothing serum is applied and will need to remain on the skin for at least six hours to protect the treatment area and further improve the results.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Vivace?

No treatment is right for every patient. When you visit a board-certified dermatologist at U.S. Dermatology Partners, we can review your possible treatment options, including Vivace, to ensure you can find the right solution and create a personalized dermatology treatment plan to achieve your goals. Vivace is a comfortable treatment that delivers both immediate and long-term results with very little downtime following your procedure.

Vivace is often a good option for people interested in:

  • Minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Tightening skin
  • Reducing pores
  • Creating an even skin tone and texture
  • Improving the appearance of scarring caused by acne or injury

Unlike other treatments to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, Vivace is an effective solution for people of all skin tones and textures. Because the radiofrequency waves heat the deeper layers of skin, the risk for hyperpigmentation and irregular scar tissue is dramatically reduced compared to treatments that focus on the surface-level skin cells. Additionally, the combined radiofrequency and microneedling treatments provide both short-term and long-term results.

How Does Vivace Treatment Work?

Before beginning your Vivace treatment, your dermatologist will apply a numbing medication to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. Most people describe the microneedling treatment as feeling like a light pressure and warmth on the skin. The numbing process can take about 30 to 45 minutes.

Once your skin is numb, your dermatologist will use the Vivace hand tool that administers radiofrequency pulses through microneedles inserted into the deep layers of skin. The heat from the radiofrequency pulses and the micro-injuries created by the needles accelerate skin’s healing and regeneration as well as increasing collagen production.

After the Vivace treatment, your dermatologist will place a cooling peptide mask to soothe the skin. Before you leave the office, a moisturizing serum is applied to protect and heal the skin. This meticulously developed recovery skincare routine ensures patients have minimal irritation, inflammation, or skin discoloration. That means most people need little to no downtime after treatment. The entire process takes about an hour to an hour and a half.

Following treatment, you’ll begin to see improved brightening and smoother skin tone and texture within the first few hours, but the full results of Vivace are achieved over the course of several weeks or months. Everyone is different, but most people need to repeat this process a few times to achieve their desired results. Your dermatologist will create a personalized plan, but the average Vivace plan includes three treatments spaced between four and six weeks apart.

Are There Side Effects to Vivace?

Following your Vivace treatment, the soothing peptide mask and protective balm will significantly reduce any redness, inflammation, or other side effects. You may still have some bleeding, scabbing,  or swelling and redness, but this is usually mild and clears up within a few days. Your dermatologist will provide you with specific aftercare instructions, including take-home serums and soothing masks to be applied periodically. Additionally, no makeup or skincare products should be applied for at least six hours following treatment. The microneedling creates small pinholes in the skin that will typically close within six hours. It’s also advisable to avoid direct sunlight for a few days. You should also take care to avoid rigorous exercise or other strenuous activities for a few days to a week after your treatment.

How Long Will Vivace Last?

Each person’s response to Vivace treatment will vary based on a variety of factors. You will likely see an immediate result as well as the long-term benefit of increased collagen production that can have visible improvements over the first six months with an initial series of three treatments. You may continue to see some improvement for a year or more, but most dermatologists will recommend retreatment at least every six months for optimal results. We recommend a series of three treatments and then going to a maintenance plan every six months for optimal results. You can prolong the results of Vivace treatment by following your dermatologist’s aftercare instructions in the weeks following your treatment. You should also protect your skin from sun damage by minimizing exposure to sunlight and wearing SPF 30 sunblock every day.
