Kybella is an injectable dermal filler gel made from dexoycholic acid that is used to decrease the appearance of the fat that hangs below the chin (double chin).
Kybella is only recommended for men and women over the age of 18, and it is not recommended if you are pregnant, nursing or are allergic to dexoycholic acid. You also need to consult with your doctor if you have a history of cosmetic treatments on your neck and face, or if you have a thyroid disorder, difficulty swallowing or swollen lymph glands in your neck.
Kybella is injected directly into the skin in the area beneath your chin. It requires a series of up to six treatment sessions, which may include up to 50 injections each time. To decrease discomfort, you may be given a topical numbing medicine or an ice pack.
The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, redness and numbness in the treated areas. It is important to seek immediate medical attention if you have trouble swallowing or the muscles in your face become weak.
The effects are permanent. Talk to your doctor at U.S. Dermatology Partners about the benefits of Kybella.
