Jeuveau Injections

Jeuveau (pronounced Jū vō) is a new way of tackling frown lines between the eyebrows that tell the stories of your years of smiling, squinting, concentrating, and yes, even frowning. The story of our lives may be written on our faces in the form of fine lines and wrinkles, but it doesn’t have to stay that way thanks to Jeuveau. If you’re ready to look and feel your very best, it’s time to sit down for a consultation with one of our knowledgeable dermatology professionals. Our teams are dedicated to offering the latest and most effective treatment options for any dermatological need to ensure your skin’s health and vitality for life.

What is Jeuveau?

Created to compete with other injectable wrinkle reducing treatments like Dysport and Botox, Jeuveau is an injectable form of the botulinum toxin that can be used to target and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Specifically, Jeuveau is uniquely effective in addressing glabellar line wrinkles, commonly referred to as frown lines. Once you receive Jeuveau treatment, you’ll see improved frown line appearance that lasts for several months after your initial injection. The process is quick, so you can usually schedule your Jeuveau injection over a lunch hour or other break in your busy day. The manufacturers of Jeuveau have improved the refinement process in order to preserve more of the potency of the botulinum toxin while continuing to provide safe and effective treatment, making it unique compared with other, similar injectable forms of the botulinum toxin.

Who is a Good Candidate for Jeuveau?

Jeuveau is a non-surgical, conservative treatment that was proven safe and effective for just about any patient. In clinical trials, there were only very mild side effects for most patients. The only major concerns are for those who have allergies to the ingredients of Jeuveau and those with nerve damage or conditions like ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease, and Lambert-Eaton syndrome that affect nerve function. When you come in for your consultation, we’ll review your health history and current medications to ensure you are not at any increased risk before we begin your Jeuveau treatment plan. In some cases, we may ask that patients receive preapproval from their physician before we can recommend Jeuveau injection treatment.

How are Jeuveau Injections Performed?

Jeuveau injections are placed to target the nerves that tell the muscles between your eyes to move, creating wrinkles in the skin over time. Specifically, we inject Jeuveau in targeted areas around the eyes. The injections interfere with the nerves that cause both conscious and unconscious muscle movements around the eyes. By limiting these movements, Jeuveau decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. For most people, the process is typically quick and painless. In order to maintain your improved appearance, we’ll need to retreat the area several times a year.

Are there Side Effects to Jeuveau Injections?

Prior to recommending Jeuveau treatment, we will review all of your existing medical conditions and current medication usage. If you have past nerve damage or nerve health concerns, this is especially important, so make sure to report any nerve health issues when you visit us for a consultation. Through five longitudinal clinical studies and two FDA trials, Jeuveau was proven to be both safe and effective. In almost all cases, patients noticed mild side effects that cleared up completely within a few weeks of the initial treatment.

Some of the common side effects include:

  • Headaches and migraine
  • Eyelid drooping or twitching
  • Upper respiratory tract infection
  • Increased white blood cell count
  • Difficulty speaking and swallowing
  • Airway inflammation and obstruction
  • Muscle cramps or weakness away from the injection site

Serious side effects were only seen in a few cases, and almost all minor side effects cleared up quickly without additional medical intervention. If you have adverse effects that last for more than ten days after treatment or that increase in severity, contact our office right away. We’ll work with you to determine whether or not you should seek additional medical treatment to address the side effects.

How Long Will Jeuveau Injections Last?

Every person’s Jeuveau plan at U.S. Dermatology Partners will be customized to address individual need. In a study conducted by the manufacturers of Jeuveau, Evolus, patients received an average of 3 treatments a year to maintain their results. Following your initial injection, we will schedule a follow-up visit after 30 days. In most cases, people showed a complete recovery from adverse effects and improved appearance after the first month. At this point, we will be able to more accurately gauge how your body is reacting to the injections to make the best treatment recommendations to ensure you maintain flawless results. We usually recommend retreatment every four to six months.

Should I Get Jeuveau or a Different Neurotoxin?

In multiple studies designed to ensure that Jeuveau offers a comparable product to other branded injectable forms of the botulinum toxin for wrinkle reduction, the results confirmed that Jeuveau does offer comparable results to Botox and Dysport. Jeuveau differs from these in the way that it is purified and processed prior to treatment. The manufacturers of Jeuveau use a vacuum drying process that has been proven to preserve the potency of the botulinum toxin. We’ll discuss the best treatment for your specific case during an in-office appointment.
