Dr. Kemi Awe graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. During her undergraduate years, she received many scholarships and awards including the award for the top researcher in Biochemistry, and elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Â Awe pursued her MD/PhD at Indiana University in Indianapolis where she worked with one of the leading T-helper cell biologists in the country while pursuing her PhD in Immunology. During her graduate training, Dr. Awe was the recipient of many research awards and a highly competitive National Institute of Health (NIH) grant, which funded her graduate work. After receiving her combined degree, she continued at Indiana University for her intern year in general surgery.
Dr. Awe completed her dermatology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) followed by one year as a UAB Dermatology faculty member. During her time there, Dr. Awe was a lead co-investigator for a NIH-funded project focused on novel topical therapies for improving sun damaged skin and preventing skin cancer.
Following residency, Dr. Awe attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, completing her fellowship in Mohs Micrographic surgery. She is a member of the American College of Mohs Surgery, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
Dr. Awe is excited to return home to Maryland and looks forward to exploring the area again. Her hobbies include sports, spending time with family and friends, and trying new restaurants.
