Joplin, Mo (KOAM)–Although you may not feel the sun’s powerful rays during the cool winter months, that doesn’t mean it isn’t affecting your skin.

A dermatologist from U.S. Dermatology Partners in Joplin urges you to take your skin seriously, even when it is cold outside. He says many patients come in with issues like dry, itchy skin and even asthma during this time of year.

Dr. Derek Towery is a dermatologist at US Dermatology Partners in Joplin. He says skin care is vital even during cooler months.

“Hot water really drys the skin out using harsh soaps, and fragrant soaps dry skin out also. You should also use lots of moisturizers when you come out of the shower.

Dr. Towery says don’t forget about the sunscreen.
