At Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, now a part of U.S. Dermatology Partners,  we are dedicated to assisting patients in the Centreville area with their skin care concerns. Thanks to an innovative treatment approved by the FDA in April 2015, neck lift surgery is no longer the only option for minimizing or eliminating submental fullness.

Kybella is composed of deoxycholic acid, which is produced by the body and it absorbs fats. When Kybella is injected into the fat tissue in the submental area, it physically destroys the cell membrane. Patients may receive many injections in a single treatment.

The safety and effectiveness of Kybella

There have been more than 20 clinical studies and over 1,600 patients treated with Kybella. Dr. Downie was a part of the clinical trial for Kybella and she can attest to its effectiveness. She now is a registered nationwide trainer of other board certified physicians for Kybella.

Comparing neck lift surgery to Kybella

A series of two to four Kybella treatment sessions may be recommended for optimal improvement. Appointments are typically scheduled at least a month apart; however, Dr. Downie tailors treatment plans to meet the unique needs of patients. In comparison to neck lift surgery, there is minimal downtime after the Kybella procedure. Neck lift surgery often requires 10 to 14 days of downtime before patients can return to work or resume other activities. With Kybella, there is minimal downtime.
