At Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, now a part of U.S. Dermatology Partners,  we are dedicated to assisting patients in the Centreville area with their skin care concerns. Deoxycholic acid is a substance found in the body that aids in breaking down and absorbing fat. The FDA approved Kybella, an injectable containing a synthetic form of this substance, to be used in treating submental fullness, the “double chin.” More than 1,600 patients around the world have been treated with Kybella and reported excellent results.

The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery conducted a survey in 2015 that showed that 67 percent of people were bothered by a “double chin.” They reported being as bothered by submental fullness as they were by lines and wrinkles. At our practice, we provide several non-surgical solutions to treat aging concerns. We understand exercise and dieting may not be successful at battling areas of stubborn fat on the face.

Kybella treatment involves the administration of 12 to 20 injections per session. We inject Kybella into the submental fat cells to destroy them. This improves the chin contours and better defines the jawline. Treatment is quick and can be completed on a lunch break. There is no downtime; allowing the patient to resume normal activities or return to work after treatment. We typically recommend six treatment sessions over the course of six months. The results can last several years.

In addition to Kybella, we offer many other injectables. Botox is a popular neuromodulator that contains botulinum toxin A. We inject Botox into frown lines on the forehead as well as lines at the corners of the eyes called “crow’s feet.” There is no downtime after treatment, and results can be seen within a week to two.

Dermal fillers including Juvéderm, Perlane, Restylane, Sculptra, and Belotero can also help deliver a more youthful appearance. Depending on the needs of the patient, we can recommend the best injectable for him or her. We will tailor a treatment plan to meet his or her individual needs.
