Centreville, VA – Dr. Ali Damavandy, a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeon who specializes in skin cancer surgery including Mohs micrographic surgery and the subsequent reconstruction, now provides Mohs Surgery to patients in the Centreville office of Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia.

Ail Damavandy, MDDr. Damavandy completed rigorous fellowship training in Mohs micrographic surgery, dermatological oncology and procedural dermatology at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA.

He was a student in the accelerated seven-year bachelor’s degree and medical degree program at George Washington University, earning a bachelor of science degree in biology, summa cum laude, and graduating as the valedictorian of his medical school class. Dr. Damavandy completed his internship in internal medicine at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Mass., and his residency in dermatology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., where he served as chief resident in his final year.

He is a member of many medical honor societies as well as the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American College of Mohs Surgery. He has written several manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals as well as book chapters and lectures nationally on cutaneous oncology and reconstructive surgery.

“With the increasing incidents of skin cancer, we are happy to be able to provide Mohs surgery to the communities in and around Centreville,” says Dr. Neeraja Mattay, a board-certified dermatologist with the Centreville practice. “We want to provide the best treatment options, with the best success rate, that is a convenience to our patients. I am excited that our patients can be treated out of the same office that they are accustomed to visiting.”

Mohs surgery is the most effective treatment for most types of skin cancer. The Mohs procedure involves surgically removing the cancer layer by layer and examining the tissue under a microscope until healthy, cancer-free tissue around the tumor is reached (commonly referred to as clear margins). Fellowship–trained Mohs surgeons are trained as a cancer surgeon, pathologist, and reconstructive surgeon. Mohs surgery has the highest success rate of all treatments for skin cancer, up to 99 percent.

Dr. Damavandy is passionate about preventing and curing skin cancer in a gentle and compassionate manner. He is dedicated to helping his patients, educating them about their condition, and offering them world-class medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology care.
