What is acne?
When oil and dead skin cells clog pores, inflammation and infection known as acne results. There are many names for acne, including whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and blemishes. When acne is severe it can literally mean that hundreds of pimples are covering the face, back, chest, and neck.
Acne causes
- The skin’s pores become clogged from natural oils and shed skin cells.
- Hormones, including those that come with puberty; PMS, pregnancy, or menopause for women; and stress.
- Oil-based skin products and cosmetics can contribute, making existing acne worse.
- Genetics. If one parent had severe acne, your chance of experiencing it is higher.
