VA offers PRP treatment to reduce signs of aging

Facial lines and wrinkles can be caused by excessive sun exposure, smoking, aging, and many other factors. The signs of aging can affect the self-esteem of both men and women. They may long for a more youthful appearance. At Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, now a part of U.S. Dermatology Partners,  we are dedicated to helping individuals achieve the results they desire and offer a variety of treatments, including PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma).

VA offers PRP treatment to reduce signs of agingRejuvenating the face

We have chosen to offer PRP treatment for facial rejuvenation because it is safe and effective. Platelet rich plasma comes from the patient’s own blood, so there is no risk of allergic reaction. There are relatively no side effects. The body is less likely to reject the substance, which is an important benefit of treatment.

Understanding PRP

Platelets contain growth factors that activate and rejuvenate cells in the body. They induce collagen production, which is vital in keeping skin firm and supple. A person loses about a teaspoon of collagen in the face each year after age 30. Therefore, it is critical to promote collagen production when striving for a more youthful look.

Learning about the procedure

We collect a small sample of blood from the patient. We spin the sample in a centrifuge to separate platelets from the blood. We then use the platelet rich plasma during the procedure, after numbing the treatment area to ensure patient comfort. The platelet rich plasma is injected into facial areas with lines and wrinkles such as the forehead, lips, or neck. There is no downtime, allowing the patient to resume normal activities immediately after the appointment.

The many uses of PRP

The medical field has been utilizing PRP for the past 20 years. In addition to offering PRP for facial rejuvenation, we provide it to patients who suffer from hair loss. After the platelet rich plasma is extracted from the blood, it is applied to the scalp. This results in hair restoration and often renewed confidence among our patients.
