Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia Highlights Botox treatment

Dr. Neeraja C. Mattay at Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, Inc Describing how botox works

At Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, now a part of U.S. Dermatology Partners, we understand facial lines and wrinkles can make men and women feel self-conscious. Therefore, we offer leading injectables such as Botox to help reverse the signs of aging. Botox is used to improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows and lines at the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet). This neuromodulator relaxes the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles and prevents them from contracting. Patients can embrace results in one to two weeks after the initial treatment. We offer Botox in the comfort of our Centreville and Sterling offices.

Model after botoxBotox is derived from sources that exist in nature. Botox contains highly purified botulinum toxin A. This injectable is one of the most extensively studied medical aesthetic treatments. It has been approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries. However, reducing the signs of lines and wrinkles is not the only use of Botox. It can also be used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and migraines.

To explore Botox treatment, we recommend scheduling a consultation with one of our board certified dermatologists. It is important to come prepared to answer the following questions:

  • What medications do you currently take, including prescription and nonprescription medication, vitamins, and herbal supplements?
  • Do you have any medical conditions, including muscle or nerve conditions?
  • Are you pregnant, or do you plan to become pregnant?
  • Do you breastfeed or plan to breastfeed?

Your answers to these questions will help determine if Botox is right for you. The dermatologist will review your medical history as well as examine the areas you want treated. If you are a candidate for Botox, a plan will be tailored to meet your individual needs. For treatment, we numb the area with a topical anesthetic before the injection. The session is quick and can be completed during a lunch break. There is no downtime, allowing you to return to work or resume normal activities after your appointment.
