The foundation of the CoolSculpting technique is a process known as selective cryolipolysis. Dermatologists at Massachusetts General Hospital discovered subcutaneous fat cells had more vulnerability to cold than other tissues do. In a controlled environment, fat cells could be precisely targeted and destroyed in localized areas, a finding that led to the development of CoolSculpting.
