Dr. Neeraja C. Mattay at Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, Inc patients asking, Does CoolSculpting work? At Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, now a part of U.S. Dermatology Partners,  we are dedicated to helping individuals achieve the results they desire and offer a variety of treatments, including CoolSculpting.

Based on real science

The foundation of the CoolSculpting technique is a process known as selective cryolipolysis. Dermatologists at Massachusetts General Hospital discovered subcutaneous fat cells had more vulnerability to cold than other tissues do. In a controlled environment, fat cells could be precisely targeted and destroyed in localized areas, a finding that led to the development of CoolSculpting.

The power of cool

DANV professionals are trained to properly use CoolSculpting technologies. They deliver controlled cool temperatures to areas such as “bra” fat, back fat, thighs, butt, tummy, sides, or neck with FDA-cleared applicators designed to isolate specific treatment sites. You’ll know the powerful cooling is going to work when you feel the sensation of cold and pulling in the first 5 to 10 minutes of the procedure. Any lingering effects, which may also include blanching and bruising, are minor and resolve in the days or weeks following treatment.

This non-invasive cooling sets off the lipolysis process limited to the treatment area. Since this breakdown of targeted fat cells is a process, you should see a visibly more contoured shape in the two to four months after treatment as the cells are removed from the body safely, much like fat from food is processed.
