Most people have heard of traditional anti-aging treatments – Botox, dermal fillers, peels, and face lifts. However, not everyone knows about laser skin treatment for rejuvenation. At Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, now a part of U.S. Dermatology Partners, we are dedicated to assisting patients in the Centreville area with their skin care concerns. We use a variety of different lasers to effectively target and treat your specific problem areas.
Laser treatment anti-aging breakthrough
Fractional laser therapy is now used as a skin-resurfacing treatment. Lasers deliver powerful results without the harsh side effects often associated with other anti-aging treatments. Laser therapy works by sending small beams of light energy to bore minute holes in the skin. This forces the body’s natural collagen production to speed up drastically. Laser treatment can now do this without damaging the top layer of the skin, which gives maximum results with minimal recovery time.
Preparing for laser treatment
If you feel laser resurfacing might be ideal for you, here are some things you should be sure to let us know during consultation:
- If you get cold sores or fever blisters. Laser treatment may trigger a breakout.
- Medications you take. Some medications affect blood clotting. To minimize side effects, we will ask these not to be taken for a few days prior to treatment.
- If you smoke. Smoking can prolong healing, so we advise quitting for a couple of weeks before treatment.
What to expect during the procedure
This is an outpatient procedure performed in our office. Often, we can use just local anesthesia on the parts of the face to be treated. If only portions of the face are being addressed, treatment takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
