According to a survey for the National Psoriasis Foundation, more than two-thirds of women and more than half of men with psoriasis say it affects their emotional well-being. Psoriasis patients feel judged by those around them. At Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, now a part of U.S. Dermatology Partners, we are dedicated to assisting patients in the Centreville area with their skin care concerns. We are committed to helping you find the best psoriasis treatment.
Psoriasis is thought to be an autoimmune disease that causes raised, red, scaly patches. Some patients only have small patches while others live with large affected areas. There are many treatments for psoriasis and we will find the best one for you.
Treatments available:
- Biologics: Prescribed for moderate to severe psoriasis that has not responded to other treatments. These are often given by injection or infusions.
- Systemic medications: Prescription medications that are taken orally and work through the body. Also typically used for moderate to severe psoriasis.
- UV light treatment: Exposes the skin to ultraviolet light on a regular basis. This treatment is considered one of the most effective psoriasis treatments available.
- Topical: These are applied to the skin and are usually the first treatment prescribed for psoriasis.
We set specific treatment goals to achieve clear or almost clear skin. We want to get your psoriasis down to 1 percent or less areas of your body affected. We strive to reach this goal as quickly as we can so you can reduce treatment down to regular check-ups. If we determine one treatment option is not working, we will determine another method to reduce your psoriasis.
