What acne is:
Acne affects the skin’s oil glands. Your pores connect to glands under your skin. The glands produce sebum, an oily substance. Your pores and glands are connected by a tunnel called a follicle. If the follicle becomes clogged, a pimple will result. The areas most affected by acne are your face, neck, chest, back, and shoulders. If the acne is severe, or becomes infected, scarring can occur. As we age, our skin loses collagen which can make the acne scars appearance to worsen.
Types of acne scar treatments:
- Cortisone cream: This is for fairly mild scars or recent ones. It will help reduce redness and swelling.
- Lasers: Laser skin resurfacing can even reduce acne scars. This can occur in just one to three sessions!
- Filler injections: Sometimes, we use fillers to help fill in the pock marks left by deep acne scars.
