What Is Pediatric Dermatology?

March 1, 2020

When it comes to skin care, children aren’t just little adults.

We have both the knowledge to address the needs of children, and the compassion to make them feel at home during treatment.

What is Pediatric Dermatology?

Children have their own special set of skin concerns and needs and some skin conditions are much more common in children than in adults. At U.S. Dermatology Partners, many of us have children of our own and therefore understand that young children may have difficulty expressing their symptoms, such as itching. Our entire staff is dedicated to compassionate pediatric dermatology care that is sensitive to the needs of both child and parent.

Common Pediatric Concerns:

  • Eczema – an itchy rash experienced by children of all ages.
  • Warts – painful and annoying (not dangerous), warts are caused by a virus and are therefore easily spread if left untreated.
  • Molluscum – a painful and contagious viral (non-dangerous) condition that causes small clear or red bumps on the skin.
  • Birthmarks – marks that can be pigmented (brown or black) or vascular (red), and can be addressed to determine need and course of treatment.
