Faces in South Riding, VA Look Smother with Juvéderm® Ultra Plus Treatment

April 12, 2019

Whether you are a male or a female, your face is usually the feature others notice the most about you, no matter what hairstyle you wear or fashion choice you make. Even if you wear makeup, facial skin gives a candid glimpse into your health, your lifestyle and your age. Dr. Asmaa Chaudhry and her aesthetic team at Dulles Dermatology Associates, now a part of U.S. Dermatology Partners, help patients from the South Riding, VA area, restore their youthful skin with Juvéderm® Ultra Plus treatment.

Why smooth skin looks younger

Simply put, we associate a smooth complexion with youth because we have very few lines or wrinkles through adolescence. The delicate skin of a child is plump with internal hydration. As the child approaches maturity, skin becomes thicker, as it is supported with a tight meshwork of collagen fibers that keep it taut.
Facial anatomy also includes about a dozen distinct fat pads on each side that contribute to rounded contours and smooth skin. Beneath these fat pads are facial muscles. Like muscles throughout the body, their mass peaks at about age 30.
Then, simultaneous changes start to take place, disrupting the smooth surface of a youthful face. Fat pads, muscles, and even bones begin to shrink. The body produces less collagen and elastin. Decades of exposure to environmental pollutants and ultraviolet light begin to age the complexion by breaking down existing collagen. Skin gets thinner, dryer, and loses natural suppleness. Without as much underlying support or internal structure, skin loses resilience. Hollows form on the face and skin sags into wrinkles and folds.
In the past, the surgical facelift was the “go to” approach for facial rejuvenation. In the care of a Board-certified dermatologist, today’s patient can slow the skin aging process and reverse obvious signs without surgery.

This injectable dermal filler is made by Allergan, a trusted global leader in aesthetic medicine, and was approved by the FDA in 2006. The product is a smooth and malleable gel, which is thicker than some of the other fillers in the Juvéderm family. The key ingredient in Ultra Plus is hyaluronic acid. This carbohydrate occurs naturally in the human body. Its function is to absorb water, cushioning skin and lubricating joints, as it delivers vital nutrients.
Dr. Chaudhry often suggests Juvéderm® Ultra Plus for deep tissue volumization and intense correction of moderate to severe facial folds. It works in three ways:

  • The gel formulation adds immediate volume, lifting features and smoothing skin.
  • Hyaluronic acid continues to act as a sponge, binding with water for further plumping.
  • Placing the filler in deeper skin layers stimulates natural production of collagen. Over time, the filler is metabolized by the body, but the new collagen remains, improving thickness, firmness, and overall condition of the skin.

Ultra Plus is a preferred filler for nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and hollowed temples and cheeks. Because the product has a smooth, refined texture, it can be used for dramatic lip augmentation, and to contour the nose and chin. It may also be injected into backs of hands to reduce the appearance of bones and raised veins.

Benefits of Juvéderm® Ultra Plus treatment

The dermal filler injection is a minimally-invasive treatment, with little or no downtime, safe for all skin types. The face is cleansed and a topical anesthetic can be applied if the skin is sensitive. In addition, lidocaine may be incorporated into the filler for a comfortable injection experience. Depending on the areas treated, a typical dermal filler session takes less than an hour. Afterward, you may wear makeup and return to normal activities.
Longevity is a big advantage of Juvéderm® Ultra Plus. With proprietary Hylacross technology, a high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid helps this product stay in skin longer. The results can last six to nine months before a touch-up application is needed.
