At Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, now a part of U.S. Dermatology Partners,  safety is one of our top priorities. Our team is highly skilled at administering the Botox injection, as well as many other injectables, safely and effectively. We have the specialized training required to treat a facial area with precision. Sections of the face that are commonly treated with Botox include horizontal furrows on the forehead, lines at the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet), and frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). These lines and wrinkles can be bothersome for many men and women in Northern Virginia. They will find exceptional treatments such as Botox in our office in Centreville.

Model recieving Botox InjectionThe history of Botox

Botox is a neuromodulator that has been used to treat patients with unwanted facial lines and wrinkles for the past 20 years. It is approved in about 80 countries for 21 indications. In addition to treating signs of aging, Botox is used to alleviate severe underarm sweating and migraines.

Patients have enjoyed the results of Botox injections to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. In 2002, Botox Cosmetic was approved by the FDA to treat patients from ages 18 to 65 with moderate to severe glabellar lines. Constant muscle contractions can lead to these lines. Botox Cosmetic contains onabotulinumtoxinA which reduces muscle activity and delivers a more youthful appearance.

The Botox procedure

We numb the treatment area with topical anesthetic before administering the Botox injection. Some patients describe the procedure as a slight pinch, but most find it very tolerable. There is no downtime after treatment, allowing patients to resume normal activities or return to work immediately. A treatment session can be completed during a lunch break. Results typically appear within seven to 10 days after a session and last three to six months.
