Chemical peels can be used to treat wrinkles, sun-damaged skin, and skin discoloration. There are several types of chemical peels. They differ by how deeply the chemical solution penetrates the skin and cost of treatment. At Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, now a part of U.S. Dermatology Partners, we are dedicated to helping individuals achieve the results they desire and offer a variety of treatments, including chemical peels.
Offering various types of chemical peels
Our options include:
- Light or superficial chemical peels – These are the mildest type of chemical peels and can be used on all skin types. We use these chemical peels to improve the appearance of pigment changes in the skin, acne scars, fine wrinkles, and mild sun damage. We can treat the face and other areas of the body with these chemical peels, which usually use a mild solution such as glycolic acid. For treatment, we apply the chemical solution to the skin, where it will remain for several minutes. Eventually, you can welcome rejuvenated skin.
- Medium chemical peels – These types of chemical peels are used to treat mild to moderate wrinkles, long-term sun damage, and skin discoloration. We use the same application technique as we would with light chemical peels; however, the procedure can take about 40 minutes.
- Deep chemical peels – These are used to penetrate several layers of the skin. They are only used to treat facial areas. We can treat skin discoloration, lesions and growths, severe wrinkles, and long-term sun damage with deep chemical peels. In most cases, only one treatment session is required to achieve results. The procedure can take 60 to 90 minutes.
