At Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, now a part of U.S. Dermatology Partners,  we are dedicated to assisting patients in the Centreville area with their skin care concerns. Patients are often interested in cosmetic injections to treat fine lines and wrinkles are welcome to schedule a visit with Dr. Neeraja Mattay of Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia to learn about neuromodulators such as Botox.

Botox explained

Understanding neuromodulators is the first step in finding out if they are right for you. Botox is one of several brands of neuromodulators. This medication works by relaxing the muscles it is injected into. When used on specific muscles of the facial area, it can reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and folds. The specific areas in which Botox works best include:

  • Glabellar lines
  • Forehead folds
  • Crow’s feet

Botox is safe to use and is formulated with botulinum toxin type A. The medication is approved by the FDA for cosmetic use. Over the years, it has also been used for medical conditions such as cervical dystonia, chronic migraines, and even overactive bladder.

Who is a candidate for neuromodulators?

Botox is a great option for most patients who are faced with dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle contractions. In fact, patients are often perfect candidates for using these injections to improve their appearance. The signs of aging don’t stand a chance against cosmetic injectables available at Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia!

How long does it take to see results?

Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid dermal fillers such as Juvéderm, Botox works differently. Because it is associated with the muscles, it may take a few days before patients notice the results. Juvéderm, Restylane, and Perlane are cosmetic injectables that will provide immediate results. Botox results will last many months, ensuring patients won’t have to schedule a reinjection treatment until about six months after the initial injection. This can be done right in our office.

Aging is a natural process, and while there is no way to stop it entirely, it doesn’t mean that patients can’t age gracefully. Botox and other cosmetic injectables are a wonderful way for patients to achieve a more youthful appearance without having to undergo plastic surgery. While facelifts are effective for patients with severe cases of wrinkles and folds, it is not the only way to look younger and address unwanted imperfections of the facial skin. When patients maintain their regular appointments to have reinjections done, they are taking the time to slow the overall process. Patients will find that the results are gradual and look completely natural, leaving friends and family clueless about the fact that cosmetic work was performed.

What other treatments can be performed?

Botox is not the only treatment available in our practice for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers are another option and can be used with Botox for optimum results. Many patients find that the combination of these treatments can allow them to completely transform their appearance. In addition to using injectables, patients may want to ask about laser therapies that are used for skin rejuvenation. Laser therapies help in stimulating the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin, and provide firmer, glowing skin. Laser therapies can also address the tone of the skin, as well as texture, providing numerous benefits. During a consultation appointment, patients can work with our team of professionals to decide which solutions are best for the results they desire.

Is Botox affordable?

When compared to more invasive treatments such as plastic surgery, Botox is incredibly affordable. The cost of Botox is determined based on how many vials of the solution is needed to achieve the desired results. We can evaluate a patient to decide how much may be required and offer an accurate quote. Our office can provide patients with financing plans to make procedures even more affordable for those on a tight budget. Ask our front office team about payment solutions available for payments over time.
