AccuTite Treatment 101 with Dr. Lisa Guidry Pruett

February 24, 2020

When it comes to healthy, beautiful skin, Carrollton area residents trust the Center for Aesthetic and Laser Medicine (CALM). So, in order to keep exceeding the expectations of our patients, our dermatologists have invested in state-of-the-art technologies like AccuTite to deliver great results quickly and comfortably. Our skilled dermatologists, like Dr. Lisa Guidry Pruett, are committed to completing advanced training, so they can perform a range of treatments that are beneficial for our patients. To help us better understand the numerous advantages of AccuTite treatment, Dr. Pruett has taken the time to answer some of the questions we hear most often about this innovative technology.

What is AccuTite?

Dr. Pruett explained, “AccuTite is a contraction technology that uses what’s called Radio Frequency Assisted Lipolysis or RFAL to get rid of stubborn fatty areas without surgery. In addition to being much less invasive than cosmetic surgery, AccuTite also provides an added benefit in that it tightens the target area at the same time it removes the unwanted fat. This means you don’t have to worry about sagging or shriveled skin after the fat stores are removed.” The state-of-the-art AccuTite system uses thermal energy in targeted areas to liquify fat cells. Additionally, the RFAL device promotes the production of collagen and elastin to smooth and firm the skin as your stubborn fat stores are melted away.

To further explain the benefits of AccuTite treatment, Dr. Pruett continued, “The dramatic results that are possible with AccuTite used to be available only with surgical treatments, and to a lesser extent with radiofrequency tools. Surgery means downtime, scars, and pain, and for many people, it’s just not a good or safe option. Radiofrequency technology devices can offer some similar treatment results, but the ultra-precise AccuTite hand tool allows us to address small or difficult to access areas that weren’t treatable with other radio frequency devices. In short, AccuTite is the most precise and effective technology for removing stubborn fatty areas available, and we’re proud to offer this solution for our patients.”

How is AccuTite Used?

AccuTite is a good treatment option for removing stubborn body fat stores or improving the appearance of loose or sagging skin in both men and women. And, with little to no downtime after the procedure, busy professionals love this treatment option. Unlike similar technologies that are only safe for larger parts of the body, the precision hand tool allows us to address the smallest areas (even improving drooping around the eyes). AccuTite can be used to address all of the following areas:

  • Facial reshaping and smoothing, including sagging skin and fat buildup around the eyes, brow line, cheeks, around the nose, lower face, mouth, and jawline
  • Neck and chin lifts
  • Sculpting the abdominal area
  • Removal of fat stores on the bra line
  • Arm and hand shaping
  • Thigh, knee, and leg shaping
  • Feminine rejuvenation

Do I Need to do Anything Before My Treatment Session?

No matter what treatment we recommend, it all gets started with a consultation appointment. Dr. Pruett says, “Any treatment can have complications. Some of the questions we ask might sound like they have nothing to do with your procedure, but we really need a complete picture of your health history, past dermatology treatments, surgeries, and all medications. This ensures we can recommend treatment options that will safely and effectively achieve your goals.” If we decide that AccuTite is the best option, we’ll schedule your AccuTite treatment session.

What Happens During AccuTite Sessions?

Before we begin your treatment, we administer a local anesthetic to numb the target area and ensure you are comfortable throughout your session. When the numbing has taken effect, we place the AccuTite probe over the treatment area. Then an electrode is positioned over the surface of the skin. Depending on the size of the targeted area, a radio frequency pulse is passed back and forth between these two pieces for 15 to 45 minutes. As the frequency flows back and forth, the fat cells are destroyed, and the skin is stimulated to produce more collagen and elastin. In some cases, we use cannulas to remove the damaged fat cells, but for most people, the cells just get resorbed into the body. Dr. Pruett described more of the benefits associated with the AccuTite system saying, “The hand tools are connected to a computer that allows us to constantly monitor and adjust the frequency for precision results. To increase safety, there is an automatic cut off if an unsafe temperature is reached. It really is a safe and simple procedure.”

Are There Side Effects I Should Worry About?

Before we get started, Dr. Pruett or a team member will talk to you about potential risks and side effects related to AccuTite sessions. For the most part, AccuTite has few adverse effects and there is little to no downtime after treatment. However, we recommend that patients avoid the following behaviors that increase risk after AccuTite treatment:

  • Smoking
  • Sun exposure immediately following treatment
  • Strenuous exercise (for about two weeks)

According to Dr. Pruett, “As long as they wear their compression garments and follow after-care instructions, patients are usually fully recovered within a week of their AccuTite session. Immediately after treatment, you may notice some swelling and inflammation, and some people have a little bruising. Mild irritation or redness at the treatment site is also common. If you’re in a lot of pain or the swelling doesn’t start to subside pretty quickly, you should give us a call.”

How Long Before I See Results?

Most people start to see some changes immediately after their AccuTite treatment, but fat cells will continue to breakdown and be naturally processed from the body for up to six months after your treatment session.

Do I Need Multiple Treatments?

In most cases, one treatment is all it takes to address an individual target area. Dr. Pruett says, “We schedule a follow-up visit a few months after the treatment session, to see your results, and if you’re not completely happy, I might recommend an additional AccuTite session. In some cases, we may need to consider other treatment options.”

Is AccuTite Treatment Permanent?

The fat removed by AccuTite and the increased collagen and elastin production are essentially permanent. However, as Dr. Pruett put it, “You can’t stop aging! However, AccuTite can really slow down the appearance of aging by tightening droopy skin and promoting the production of collagen and elastin in addition to removing those stubborn fat stores. Depending on the individual’s results, we may recommend retreatment about every 5 years, or we may need to see them for retreatment more or less frequently depending on aging, weight loss and gain, and other natural changes to the body.”
