Insurance can be complex and we want to make sure that your claim is processed accurately. Any of our billers would be glad to speak with you and explain how your claim was processed.

What if I’m not able to pay my account balance?
If you’re not able to pay in full, we would be happy to work with you to set up a payment plan. You can make a payment each month or we can bill your credit card automatically for a specified amount.

I have new insurance. How can I get you this information?
If you have new insurance that was active at the time of your visit, we would be happy to submit your claim. Please call us at (512) 280-3939 with your policy information, or fax the information to (512) 280-3938.
Please keep in mind that most insurers set a 60- or 90-day deadline for submitting a claim, so it’s very important that we receive your updated information as soon as possible.
Why didn’t you charge my co-pay at the time of my visit?
At the time of your visit we generally charge the co-pay amount listed on your insurance card. However, the amounts printed on the insurance card are not always up-to-date (or occasionally there is no co-pay, only an annual deductible).
Once we submit your claim, your insurance company provides us with the up-to-date specialist co-pay amount that is owed under your current plan.
What is a deductible?
Your deductible is an amount that the insurance company requires to you to pay out-of-pocket before they begin paying.
Your deductible is stated in your insurance policy. Generally, the higher the annual deductible on your policy the lower the monthly premium.
Deductibles commonly start over on January 1 each year (though some policies may have a different policy date).
What is co-insurance?
Co-insurance is a cost-sharing method required by your insurance company. For example, under the terms of your policy the insurance company may cover 80% of the cost, but require the patient to pay the remaining 20%.
Why did I receive a bill from a Cockerell Dermatopathology?
If you had a specimen removed at our office (for example, a skin biopsy), that specimen was sent for analysis to Cockerell Dermatopathology along with your insurance information. A dermatopathologist is a specialized doctor who performs a microscopic analysis of the sample.
Cockerell Dermatopathology is not affiliated with our practice. They bill your insurance directly for the services performed and send statements for any portion that is owed by the patient.

Why did I receive a bill from Sagis Pathology?
If you had a specimen removed at our office (for example, a skin biopsy), that specimen was sent for analysis to Sagis Pathology, along with your insurance information. A dermatopathologist is a specialized doctor who performs a microscopic analysis of the sample.
Sagis Pathology is not affiliated with our practice. They bill your insurance directly for the services performed and send statements for any portion that is owed by the patient.

Why did I receive a bill from Clinical Pathology Laboratories?
Our patients commonly have blood drawn at Clinical Pathology Laboratories (CPL). In addition, specimens collected in the office may be sent to CPL for analysis.
Since CPL is not affiliated with our practice, we provide your insurance information to them along with the instruction on which tests need to be performed. They bill your insurance directly and send statements if any portion is owed by the patient.

How do I get a receipt for my health savings account?

Why is my bill different from the estimate that I received from Evans Dermatology?
If you’re scheduled for an in-office procedure (or if you request an estimate), we generally call your insurance company to determine your benefits.
The insurance company will not guarantee benefits over the phone. So it’s possible that the information we received from them on the phone was not accurate, or that your benefits changed after we called.
It’s also possible that the procedure that was performed was slightly different than we anticipated (for example, a larger incision or more complex suturing).
